The Hong Kong team won the toss and elected to bat first. However, they struggled against the fierce Indian bowling attack, managing only a meager total of 34 runs in 14 overs. In response, India ‘A’ comfortably reached the target in a mere 5.2 overs, losing only one wicket along the way.

Led by captain Shweta Sehrawat, the Indian team showcased their dominance right from the beginning. Many players from India’s successful U-19 World Cup campaign featured in the team, contributing significantly to their strong start in the tournament. Opting to field first, the Indian bowlers restricted Hong Kong’s batting lineup, with Shreyanka Patil stealing the show by taking an impressive 5 wickets for just 2 runs in her 3 overs.

Patil came close to achieving a hat-trick in the 11th over when she dismissed Mariko and Maryam Bibi on consecutive deliveries, finishing with incredible figures of 4/0. Parshavi Chopra also played a crucial role by claiming two wickets, wrapping up the Hong Kong innings with the dismissal of Iqra Sahar, caught by Uma Chetry.

India had an excellent start to their chase, thanks to the contributions of Mannat Kashyap and Titas Sadhu, who had performed brilliantly in the U-19 World Cup final. Although there were a few close calls while running between the wickets for the opening pair of Sehrawat and Chetry, the Indian batters comfortably achieved the target. Unfortunately, Sehrawat fell victim to an impressive catch by Kary Chan off Betty Chan’s bowling. However, in the end, Chetry (16*) and Trisha Gongadi (19*) guided India ‘A’ to a comprehensive nine-wicket victory by smashing a six off Ruchitha Venkatesh’s bowling.

India ‘A’ will now face Nepal in their upcoming match of the tournament on June 15 at the same venue. With their spectacular performance against Hong Kong, the Indian team is undoubtedly looking forward to building on their success and maintaining their winning momentum in the tournament.
