Fresh Faces Join India’s Test Squad
After their disappointing loss to Australia in the World Test Championship final at the Oval, India has made some bold decisions by introducing promising new talents into their Test setup. Veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has been excluded from the squad, allowing uncapped batters Yashaswi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad to be included.
Jaiswal and Gaikwad performed remarkably during the Indian Premier League (IPL), where they opened the batting for the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, respectively. The pace department of the Test squad will also see the presence of Mukesh Kumar and Navdeep Saini. At the same time, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav have been left out. Ajinkya Rahane has been appointed as the squad’s vice-captain, supporting captain Rohit Sharma. Unfortunately, Jasprit Bumrah remains unavailable due to his ongoing recovery from a back injury.
ODI Squad: Familiar Faces and Exciting Returns
The ODI squad features a blend of regular players and some notable comebacks. Ruturaj Gaikwad has also secured a spot in the white ball setup, joining the team’s ranks. Additionally, Sanju Samson has been given a recall, replacing KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, who are currently sidelined due to injuries.
In the pace bowling department, Mukesh Kumar finds himself again included in the limited-overs squad, along with Jaydev Unadkat and Mohammed Siraj. Completing the pace bowling options is Umran Malik. The ODI squad also boasts four spin-bowling choices, with Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel cutting.
Leading the ODI side will be Rohit Sharma, with Hardik Pandya taking up the role of vice-captain.
